SHADER EDITOR?, What is it?!
Our 'Shader Editor' is a freeware tool to (surprisingly) edit the .shader files that Quake III Arena uses for the special effects in its engine. Examples of shaders are the fire animation of torches, the shiny metal textures in maps, the special effects on models, etc.

I have added two mirrors to download the editor from, thanks QuakeItalia's Culted and Telefragged. Furthermore, I just heard we had quite some ppl drop by on our channel just to say that they like the editor, well, we could have done worse.. :]

I forgot to mention it somewhere else, but whenever we are online, we usually reside on the Enter The Game irc network, channel #scythe ... so if you wanna chat (damn that sounds lame ;), we might be there...

Now that we have a working, usable version of our editor, we might as well release it. Ofcourse, every respectable tool needs a homepage, so this is (behold) the official 'Shader Editor' homepage (in case you didn't figure that out yourself). All new versions, links, mirror locations and tutorials will be hosted on this site...
Soultaker has mailed Pagan, a programmer working on the MD3View project, after Pagan's post on their site stating that they are working on an open source shader parser and rendering lib.. sounds familiar? Well, we have agreed to combine our efforts and work together on the the library and speed up the development process.

FEATURES

With the 'Shader Editor' you can create new or edit existing shaderfiles, new shaders and stages according to the specifications of the 'official' shaderdocs that were released by iD Software recently. Users can edit the supplied .def files that come with the editor to suit their own needs, although they contain all working attributes.

  • Create new or edit existing shader files easily.
  • All attributes are supplied according to iD's shader documents. (so if it doesnt work, blame iD)
  • Support for editing the shaders in other fs_game directories.
  • Detailed help/description with every attribute and their properties. (these are taken from iD's documents, so if it doesn't work..)
  • ..uhm...
Screenshot (doh!)

Features that will be added in the next version:

  • Full OpenGL hardware accelerated preview of shaders on various standard 'objects' (box, model, room).
  • Support for editable prefab 'standard' shaders for easy and quick creation of common shaders (skies, portals, etc.)
  • Easier, graphical representation of shaders/stages and their attributes.
  • Anything we havent come up with but you have... (mail us!)
